Ryan is originally from Lancashire and now lives in Wales since graduating in Journalism, Film & Media from Cardiff University.
He started shooting documentaries and was double nominated for American Interior & Ivor Gurney for which he won a BAFTA Cymru.
Moving into Feature Films, Ryan shot Black Mountain Poets which was nominated for a BIFA & screened at SXSW, from there he shot Prevenge (Directed by Alice Lowe) which screened at Toronto, Venice, BFI LFF & SXSW, and last year he shot The Fight (Directed by Jessica Hynes), one of Peter Bradshaw’s picks of the BFI London Film Festival.
Recently Ryan has worked with directors Dolly Wells, Jacob Anderson, Rhiana Yazzie, Toby Cameron, Jen Sheridan, Naomi Waring & Claire Fowler, shooting 5 feature films, several short films & a TV series which are in post production and on the festival circuit.
Ryan is naturally drawn to handheld, intimate &and lyrical films and is inspired by the work of Lynne Ramsay, Andrea Arnold, Kelly Reichardt, Derek Cianfrance, Sebastião Salgado & Anton Corbijn.
